DEATH AT PICNIC

Cave-in Kills Boy (N.Z. Press Association! KAITAIA. June 1. Crushed in a fall of sandatone, a boy died on Saturday afternoon at Houhora Head, 20 miles north of Kaitaia. He was Timothy Sweetapple, aged 12, a son of Mr and Mrs K. Sweetapple, of Duncan's Road, Kaitaia, who had taken their children to the heads on a picnic. With another boy, Robert Carnegie, Timothy began to enlarge a cave in the bank at the edge of a stream. Both! were caught when the bank fell, but the former had his head free, and was able to ! call for help. It took 15 minutes to free Robert Carnegie and then get' Timothy Sweetapple out. Mouth-to-mouth resuscitation was used on the latter! for half an hour, but he did! not respond. An inquest was opened at Kaitaia later in the afternoon, and adjourned after evidence of identification was given.
