HAMILTON, June 1.
Five young persons are tonight stranded at the foot of a cliff on the Waikato River, half a mile downstream from the Karapiro dam, near Cambridge, after their boat was holed late this afternoon.
The Hamilton police are rushing floodlights to the scene, and will set them up overnight All water flowing from the Karapiro dam has been shut off. No attempt will be made tonight to reach those! trapped, as conditions are too difficult. A rescue attempt will be made at first light Those trapped are Messrs D. Hosking, R. Sykes, and R. Carlson, and Mrs L. Carlson, all believed to be in their early 20s and all from Hamilton.
The fifth person has not yet been named by the police, as next-of-kin have not been informed.
