Traffic on the roads leading into Christchurch yesterday was heavy but well behaved. Traffic was heaviest on the Main North and Main South Roads and reached a peak about 5 p.m. A spokesman for the Ministry of Transport said that the behaviour of motorists throughout the Queen’s Birthday Week-end had been very good with only a few cases of speeding. Ice had been a problem in parts of North Canterbury and also on the Selwyn bridge, where it had caused an accident, but otherwise there had been few difficulties he said.
