Pickets Planned
(N.Z Press Association)
AUCKLAND, June 1
A series of activities are planned by the Anti-tour Action Committee in an eleventh hour effort to halt the All Black tour of South Africa.
Beginning on Wednesday, there will be pickets from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. outside the Auckland Rugby Football Union offices, “until the tour is cancelled, or until June 12,” the day before the team is due to leave.
“Similar protests will be mounted at other Rugby union offices throughout the country and will coincide with the picketing of New Zealand House by the Stop the 70 Tour Committee in Britain,” said a statement issued by the action committee today. Waikato University students have organised an antitour relay from Hamilton to Auckland next Friday with runners arriving at Auckland University about 6 p.m. The statement also says that “in the event of the All Black tour not being cancelled, several busloads of protesters will leave Auckland and travel to Wellington to protest at the airport when the team departs.”
