Lake Manapouri “Shares”
New Zealand’s latest I {share issue will go on! I the market this week.! The “Save Manapouri” Campaign will issue ; 30,000 “shares” at 50 cents to the public to finance its case to the Commission of Inquiry and, later. Parliament. The campaign's president; (Mr R. J. McLean) in announcing the “flotation” says:; “If Comalco can do it, then! so can we.” The “shares” will be distributed to sports dealers and{ organisations. Mr McLean says that apart from financing the campaign, the “shares” will provide an involvement for the thousands who will be following the submissions to the commission and later to the Parliamentary Select Committee which will deal with the

I The “shares” will also proi vide a memento in a battle which caused the majority of New Zealanders to re-examine the whole issue of conservation through the name “Manapouri,” he says. The issue will be limited ito 30,000 and any surplus from the fund will be given to the National Parks Authority, which has the task of I {maintaining conservation of {national parks on a “pitiful; , j budget.” I It hoped that the “shares,”! J which would be individually i assigned and numbered, would have collector’s value |in years to come, and No. 1 would be retained by the campaign for auction, he said. The “dividend” to share- ; holders is printed on the “share” as “the retention of Lake Manapouri in the natural state.” The assets are described as “natural.’ '
