SANTOS LOSES
Unpopular I Decision (N.Z.P.A. neuter—Copyright) ' MELBOURNE. The New Zealand boxer, M. Santos, who lost on points in a 10-rqund contest with the Victorian light-weight titleholder, L. Young, on Monday night, wants to fight Young again, “as soon as possible.” Santos said he thought he had won the bout clearly, and added: “1 reckoned I was so far in front at the start of the last round that I just had to stand up to win.” The decision to award the fight to Young, by the referee, Mr T. Reilly, brought one of the most hostile demonstrations in Melbourne boxing for years. “It was one of the worst decisions given against me,” Santos said yesterday, before leaving Melbourne to return to Auckland. 1 had to chase Young almost throughout the fight and I landed many more scoring punches.” Some fans at the ringside gave Young only one round, the’ last. Mr Reilly said he made Young the winner because the Victorian had outscored Santos with twohanded counter punching. Santos is making a comeback after having retired when he relinquished the Commonwealth light-weight title in 1967. In a previous fight with Young, in March, Santos was leading on points when he was forced to retire in the seventh round because of a cut eye
