Parliament’s Diary
Two measures, the Tokelau Islands Amendment Bill and the Niue Amendment Bill, were returned to Parliament by the Island Affairs Committee when Parliament resumed yesterday afternoon. Ministers answered 19 questions. Two notices of motion were debated without a vote being called. One, by the Deputy Leader of the Opposition (Mr Watt) related to the appointment of Mr A. J. Yendell as High Commissioner to Australia. The other, by Mr H. R. Lapwood (Nat, Rotorua) referred with approval to the conduct of the police. The second reading debate on an Opposition measure, the Physical Environment Bill, sponsored by Mr J. A. Walding (Lab., Palmerston North) led discussion on legislation during the evening.
