Drive Against Sharks

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) BRISBANE, May 27. More than 10,000 sharks have been killed in the eight years of a drive against them off the Queensland coast. A marine official announced yesterday that since late 1962, 10,562 sharks and 5637 unborn pups had been caught, but, he said the number being caught was declining. In the last year, for instance, 1318' sharks were caught in mesh nets or set lines, whereas the catches exceeded 1400 a year between 1965 and 1967. >

The biggest catches had been made off the popular resort areas, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast
