$700 Smash And Grab
Watches, rings and clocks, of a total value of $7OO were ; stolen in a smash-and-grab raid on Riccarton Jewellers, Ltd, 120 A Riccarton Road, at the week-end. A brick wrapped in a cloth was used to smash the display case window. In other recent burglaries reported to the police a handbag and gold watch of a total value of 822 were stolen from a house in Elm Grove, a record player and a transistor radio of a total value of $llO were stolen from Canterbury Appliances, Ltd, 475 A Papa nui Road, and an electric razor and a transistor, radio of a total value of $ll2 were taken from a shop in Armagh Street. A television set worth $215 was stolen when a home in Opawa Road was burgled, a radio and handbag of a total value of $42 were stolen from the Croydon Private Hotel and $lB was stolen from the Granada Coffee Lounge, 641 Colombo Street. Five thousand cigarettes of a total value of $146 were taken from the shop in the Savoy Theatre, Cathedral Square, rings and jewellery of a total value of $125 were taken from a house in Memorial Avenue and a radio worth $33 was taken from a flat in Alpha Avenue.
