Covering the mile in a fast! limn 58sec, Fulla Napoleon was I all out to handle a furious bid in the straight by Horton Hanover (Canada) with G. Phalen in the sulky. Third in the mile was the| favourite, the New Zealandbred Good Chase, driven by D.i Inkso. Iq beating Cardigan Bay's track record of Imin 58.1 sec, Fulla Napoleon ran fourth in a 58.1 sec half and then followed Good Chase to the three-quarter! mark in Imin 2.4 sec. At this, point Thomas urged his flve-{ year-old son of Dale Frost to the lead and they were never headed thereafter. Horton Hanoyer, far back for the first three-quarters finished fastest of all. The $25,000 winner's share gives Fulla Napoleon seasonal earnings of $60,000 and a lifetime bankroll of $506,905. The Imin 58sec victory was the fastest mile in the United States for 1970, regardless of the size of the track.
