CRETE VETERANS PARADE
Veterans of the Battle of Crete held a remembrance parade at the war memorial in Cathedral Square yesterday afternoon to mark the twentyninth anniversary of the battle. About 140 former servicemen, many wearing campaign medals and decorations, attended the parade and service, and several former nurses who were
on Crete were also! present. The parade was led by Brigadier T. C. Campbell (vice-president of the Crete Campaigners’ Association), Brigadier J. T. Burrows, and Mr C. H. Upham, V.C. and bar. A wreath was laid at the memorial by Brigadier Burrows. The service was led by the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. W. A.

The 671 New Zealanders who were killed or died of wounds suffered in the battle were remembered in silence by their old comrades. The Last Post was played, followed by a prayer and Reveille. Casualties suffered by the Second New Zealand
