APPEALS FAIL
Three appeals against sentiences imposed in the Magistrate’s Court were dismissed Iby Mr Justice Wilson in the i Supreme Court yesterday. Kevin Patrick Lilley, aged 121, a slaughterman (Mr D. H -Stringer), appealed unsuccessfully against a sentence of a total of four months gaol imposed on two charges of ! driving while disqualified. ’ His Honour said the two [offences of driving while disqualified were committed on successive days, the second offence occurring after Lilley bad been apprehended on the first. Counsel had submitted Lilley was so overcome with drink that he did not know what he was doing, but there was no evidence of this.
Christopher Raymond Field, aged 18, a factory worker, appealed against a sentence of Borstal training imposed on a burglary charge. His ; Honour said Field’s history ! showed persistent offending, and in the past he had been fined, placed on probation, and sent to a detention centre, but he had persisted in a course of dishonesty.
