Eggs Dearer Today
(N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 22. All grades of eggs will rise in price by 5c tomorrow. The Egg Marketing Authority .today said that seasonal production fluctuations had made the increase in price necessary. It had the approval of the Price Tribunal. “This adjustment still leaves the retail price of eggs 3c to 4c below the level of
his time last year,” said the issistant general manager of he authority (Mr M. R. Jowdrey). “Durinig the last seven nonths there has been a leavy egg surplus. Because >f this, prices have been subitantially lower than usual at ;his time of the year and consumers have taken advantage if this fact. “As a result, sales have •cached record levels, being
8 per cent over 1969. This represents an additional consumption of about 14 eggs per head of population. “Despite lower payouts as a result of over-production, poultry farmers have still been faced with continually rising production costs. Meatmeal in particular, an important ingredient in poultry feed, has increased considerably in price," he said. Large (265), cartoned: Nelson 60c: Marlborough 61c; Westland and Canterbury 56c.
