Grasslands President
The new president of the New Zealand Grassland Association is Mr N. A. Cullen, who has been director of the Department of Agriculture’s Invermay agricultural research centre at Mosglel In Otago for the last four years and on the staff of the centre for the last 21) years.. - Mr Cullen, who comes originally from Milton in Otago, joined the Invermay staff in 1950 as a pasture research officer after graduating bachelor of agricultural science from Lincoln College In the preceding year. His early work at the station was with fertiliser studies and general pasture investigations and a trial that he laid down gave one
of the first- responses recorded to molybdenum In the South Island. More recently he .has been concerned with fertiliser and pasture problems associated- with land 'development in the Te Anau area and with factors affecting oversowing of grasses and clovers. Associated with Invermay are outstations at Tara Hills In the Omarama district and the Woodlands animal breeding station, of 400 acres, which was taken over in April last year. Woodlands is to be devoted to sheepbreeding work and there are now 2500 sheep on it. The Invermay staff totals about 60, including 11 or 12 professional people.
