Travel Club
Fifty-five new members were admitted to the Canterbury Travel Club during the year, keeping membership to its full strength of 680, says the annual report. Morning-tea receptions had been more than fully attended, and extra seating was often necessary. More than 60 visitors from overseas and New Zealand had been entertained. Social activities included a visit to the Kaiapoi woollen mills, an afternoon function to welcome the club’s new patron the Mayor (Mr A. R. Guthrey), an afternoon Christmas party, a welcome to the British broadcaster, Mr Sam Pollock, and coffee parties for new members. The club continues to support several Christchurchorganised charities. This year, it gave a total of $3ll, bringing the total given by the club over the last 29 years to $25,745. The sponsorship of two children in Athens and Crete under the Save the Children Fund also continued throughout the year. A cash Christmas present of $3O was sent, to be divided between the children. tb— $,
