Report Not Accurate
(N.Z Press Association)
DUNEDIN, May 21.
An Otago fisherman, Mr L. E. Anderson, of Karitane, today criticised a Press Association report of evidence heard by the Parliamentary Select Committee on the fishing industry in Wellington. The introductory paragraph in a report published today said that Otago fishermen were convinced they had a race of pygmy crayfish on their coast Mr Anderson said there was nothing in his evidence or that of another local fisherman, Mr J. J. Kenton, to support the interpretation which the report had been given.
Mr Anderson said he had emphasised that he did not want the present regulations to be changed, and that small crayfish on the Otago coast appeared not to reach maturity in that area. He had been
asked by a committee member if he thought that these crayfish were a pygmy, breed and he had replied that they might be.
