RANGER GUIDES
Eighteen Ranger Guides will travel to Marton on May 30 to set up the first national ranger-guide council, through which the younger folk will be heard at national and world level of the Girl Guides’ Association.
Each ranger-guide unit elects its representatives to sit on a district council, says a newsletter from the association. These representatives elect delegates for a provincial council, from which come the national representatives. New Zealand is divided into 19 girl-guide provinces, 18 of which are sending representatives to the first national council meeting.
Their discussions will be held at the same time as the annual meeting of the national programme and training committee. A variety of subjects will be discussed, including longterm planning of activities, the new programme, and the up-grading of the syllabus for the Queen’s Guide Badge.
Views will also be exchanged on such topics as the needs of present-day youth, understanding of the drug problem, plans for combined activities with Venturer Scouts of the same age-group, and finding more opportunities for service to the community.
