THE UNITED STATES TANKER MANHATTAN taking on supplies from her Canadian escort, the icebreaker Louis St Laurent, during a stop off the coast of Baffin Island. The icebreaker reported that heavy ice north of Baffin Island stopped the giant tanker in her attempt to reach Navy Board Inlet in the Arctic. .The two ships headed north last month to test the Manhattan in winter ice conditions in the Arctic in an attempt to move through the North-West Passage.
