Professor

A second chair of mechanical engineering has been created at the University of Canterbury with the announcement that Dr H. McCallion, a reader in mechanical engineering at the University of Nottingham since 1965, has been appointed.

Professor McCallion was interviewed in New Zealand about three weeks ago and he will join Professor D. C. Stevenson in the mechanical engineering department. He has had much experience with computers. Dr McCallion gained his bachelor of science degree with first-class honours at London in 1950. In 1954 he was awarded his doctorate of. philosophy from Nottingham,! where he also received his doctorate of science in 1967. For many years Dr McCal-> Ilion has been a member of the board of the Faculty of: Applied Science at Notting|ham and also a member of | the senate sub-committee of! computing which governs I Nottingham's • computer I centre.
