HOON HAY FIRE

Mr and Mrs W. G. Howden and their three children, of Hoon Hay Road, who lost nearly everything except the clothes they were wearing when their home was burnt early yesterday morning, have received many offers of help. Their neighbours. Mr and Mrs N. Green, who looked after Mr and Mrs Howden and their girls before the family went to stay with their parents yesterday, had to have their phone disconnected because they were swamped with offers. Clothing, blankets, bedding and toys were offered by the North Canterbury Centre of the Red Cross Society to the Howden family yesterday. The secretary, Mr R. J. Lipscombe, said that if they wanted any help the centre would do anything it could to help.
