FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A depression is moving eastwards on to New Zealand from the central Tasman Sea. Forecast:

Canterbury.—South-westerlies freshening in exposed places during the day; becoming cloudy and cold with showers; some snow on the high country.

Marlborough.—Moderate north-westerlies and partly cloudy with showers later; tending cooler with a change to southerly winds likely on the Kaikoura Coast. Nelson.—Moderate variable winds and partly cloudy apart from scattered showers on the hills; cooler later. Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds; showers in the north-east, otherwise partly cloudy and tending cooler.

Outlook: changeable south-westerly conditions with some showers in most areas.
