Olympic Games
Sir,—ln reply to your editorial on South Africa and the Olympic Games, I find it hard to understand how you and many New Zealanders can believe that by sending a sports team to South Africa or by competing against their all-white teams abroad we will be able to influence their Government to change its racial policy. The white South Africans decided long ago that control of that country must remain in their hands and the best method by which to ensure this was apartheid This policy has already cost them a lot in sporting and political ties with other countries, but the cost is accepted as being worth the results (white supremacy). To think that white South Africans would change this policy after seeing a Nigerian running round a track or a couple of Maoris kicking a football about is extremely naive.— Yours, etc., C. W. LEE.
