Phone For Visitors At Court

Court business frequently leads to telephone calls. In Christchurch there had been no provision for the public to ring from the Magistrate’s Court. This situation has now been corrected.

A public telephone booth (see picture) now stands on the footpath near the Armagh Street entrance to No. 1 Magistrate’s Court. It was erected yesterday by the Post Office. The Deputy Registrar of the Magistrate’s Court . (Mr W. D. L'Estrange) said that members of the public were often asking to use a phone in the court offices.

Apart from the Justice Department phones in the building there were phones only for the lawyers and the police.
