New Zealand's Thomas Cup badminton team is hopeful it can become sufficiently .acclimatised to the heat and ■ humidity by the time the final rounds of the competition start in Kuala Lumpur, ion May 28. I The team has had two ! warm-up matches since leaving New Zealand, losing 0-6; to Singapore and 0-5 to Thailand.
The New Zealand manager and captain, Mr R. Vallance, said on arrival in Penang yesterday that his team had only one complaint—"the heat.” “It beat us when we played in Singapore and in Bangkok,” he added. “Our players were definitely badly affected by the heat. They were unable to move freely and tended to lose their touch.
“We hope to show improvement here before we meet Indonesia on May 28 and 29.” The New Zealanders will play Penang in friendly matches today and tomorrow. The New Zealand-Indonesia match to decide which will meet Canada in the semifinals opens the final round of the Thomas Cup competition. which also includes the holder, Malaysia, and Denmark.
