Avonside Scores Surprise Win
R. V. Jackson and B Beaumont lead Avonside to a surprise win over Seiwyn in the fourth round of the senior table tennis competition last night. Jackson and Beaumont won all their singles matches, against V. N. Brightwell. H. P Holt and G. W. Makinson. The victory enabled Avonside to gain a further two points and move into fourth place in the competition. ' ii University I had the easiest ! of wins over Dallington, whose ! team could find no answer to ' the modern attacking game of ’ the Malaysians and lost all itsj matches in straight games Benson and Hedges retained! its unbeaten record, scoring a < 10-2 win over University 11. G. J R Saunders and W. T. Scott | 'were unbeaten in singles play: j for University, Yeoh Keat Chye < scored his sides only singles!] victory, beating M. R. Spinks. ] N. B. Radford gave his best < .performance of the season by < 'beating J. Armstrong in a spec .* 'tacular match. After winning! : the first game. 23-21. Radford iS was outclassed in the second, ] 8-21, but he made an early, j break to win the deciding game.jt 21-14. This was the first loss i Armstrong has suffered in the competition.
