WELLINGTON, May 18.

The Government will set up a committee of inquiry into I pre-school services and give an interim grant of $lO,OOO [to help training officers travel to remote play centres, the Under-Secretary of Education (Mr Gain has told the Play Centre Federation.

A spokesman for the federation said today that the tra-

vel grant would be of great assistance. At present the play

centre movement could just manage to provide for families who were willing to help

themselves. The grant would help extend facilities to underprivileged children.
