Plans For Piko
“The Press’* Special Service HAMILTON.
The champion three-year-old, Piko, has made very good pro gross in the last two weeks and he is ready to resume racing in the Members’ Handicap '6f) at Ellersie on Saturday week.
Piko. which has been Weighted at 9-8. has 221 b above the minimum. He was brought to Te Rapa for a training gallop yesterday, but was not asked for much speed. He was to have resumed in the seven furlongs Stewards' Handicap at Te Rapa on May 9, but when the track became soft it was decided to scratch him as it was felt that he was not quite forward enough to do himself full justice.
Herewini, which was disappointing in the Seddon Hurdles, has done well and his trainer, J. H. Hely, says that he will have his next race in the Great Northern Hurdles at Ellerslie on Saturday week.
There was an excuse for Herewini's failure at Te Rapa last Saturday. He was trailing Sabaean Summer and going well, but became unbalanced when Sabaean Summer fell with just over a round to go. After that he was never travelling kindly.
