Renovation Praised The Anglican Church Property Trustees are to be commended for the recent renovation to their building on the north-west corner of Manchester and Cashel Streets, says a report in the Christchurch Civic Trust’s latest monthly newsletter “Courier.” The judicious use of paint has ' accentuated the building’s architectural features, brought out its character and revealed a building of charm and distinction. A similarly well-painted building is the National Bank on the corner of Hereford and Manchester Streets. Many other fine old buildings, neglected at present, would add distinction to Christchurch if similarly treated—but this should be done with great care. Airport Alert Emergency services were alerted at Christchurch airport yesterday morning for what in the end was found to be a faulty light in the cockpit of a Viscount. The aircraft, on a flight from Auckland with 67 passengers, was about 30 minutes from Christchurch when a warning light indicated that the No. 3 engine was faulty. The engine was feathered and police and emergency services stood by while the Viscount landed safely at 10 a.m. on its other three engines. A check revealed that the warning light and not the engine was at fault N.Z. Delegation Twenty leaders of industry and commerce will represent New Zealand at the third general meeting of the Pacific Basin Economic Co-operation Council in Kyoto, Japan, next week. National officers in Federated Farmers, the Associated Chambers of Commerce, the Manufacturers’ Federation, and the Bankers’ Association will be members of the delegation, together with senior executives of some of the 60 companies which support the New Zealand committee of the Pacific basin organisation. The leader of the delegation is Mr R. C. MacDonald (Wellington), president of the New Zealand committee.—(P.A.) Controller Off Motorists using the Lichfield and St Asaph one-way streets between today and Tuesday would not encounter the “green wave” traffic light progression that is normally in use on the two streets, the Christchurch City Council’s traffic engineering section said yesterday. This is because the master controller for the lights will be temporarily out of action while signals for the new Barbadoes Street and Madras Street one-way pair are con-, nected. The new one-way streets will come into use on May 24.
