Convicted Of Burglary
Raymond Neil Forrester, 'aged 20, a driver (Mr J. R. Milligan), was sentenced to six months imprisonment on a charge of burglary of the premises of Dalgety and New Zealand Loan, Ltd, Darfield, about March 28, when he appeared before Mr Justice Henry in the Supreme Court yesterday. Forrester pleaded not guilty before a jury. The Crown (Mr W. S. Smith) called five witnesses and only Forrester gave evidence for the defence. The jury returned a verdict of guilty after a short retirement. When making submissions before sentence was imposed, Mr Milligan said that because of his previous offences Forrester was approaching the stage of being institutionalised in spite of his young age. Earlier in the month he had been sentenced to two years imprisonment on six charges. His Honour said that although Forrester was only 20 he already had quite a record and had been placed under supervision, fined, sentenced to Borstal and a short term of imprisonment. The sentence he had imposed would be cumulative, his Honour said.
