Building Delay ; Regretted A special liaison officer was • needed for the Ministry of . Works and the Department of i Education to avoid "frustrat- i ing delays” in educational building, it was suggested at i a meeting of the Burnside High School Board of Gov- i ernors last evening. Mr J. R. Ragg was com- | menting on delay about the , school’s new team teaching , block. Ministerial approval ; was given for it this week, but it would not be competed , when promised. , The Department of Educa- j tion had told the board in ' July last year the block would , be completed by February, . 1971. The acting headmaster (Mr j B. Heney) said that if the new ■ building was not completed!) by February next year it I, would be impossible to ac- , commodate all new appli- - cants. Already, he said, there were 100 more likely appli-' cants than had been expected.; "Where we are going to put them I do not know.” The chairman of the board! (Mr B. Zeff): “Could we refuse to take the extra number Of pupils unless we have an assurance that the buildings will be finished in time?” “AH we would do would be to pass the buck to another school,” Mr J. S. Whiten said The board agreed to make further representations to the 1 Southern Regional Office of Education on the matter. Board members spoke with concern about the Education Department’s sale of school land on the Memorial Avenue frontage for housing. “The school grounds will j be blocked off by a monstrous j I fence and houses,” Mr E. CJ 'Robinson said.
