Golfer Disqualified

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) | FORT WORTH (Texas). ; The South African golfer, H. Henning, was disqualified from a major tournament yes-, terday after B. Crampton (Australia), reported him for a rule infraction, United Press International reported. Henning shot a one-under-par 69 in the first round of the Colonial National invitation tournament, but was disqualified for signing an incorrect card. Crampton, one of his playing partners, reported that Henning had grounded a clubj while in a hazard at the; eighteenth hole.

The two-stroke penalty fori such an infraction was not ini eluded in Henning’s score, which showed a one-over foi the hole. Henning hooked his tee shot at the final hole, and i the ball hit a tree and rebounded into a water hazard, defined by yellow lines and stakes. The ball was in the hazard but not in water, and was playable. Henning walked into the marked area, leaned on his , driver, then returned the club to the bag, took out an ' iron and, holding it only in his left hand, touched it to the ground behind the ball. “Out, out,” Crampton called. “You’re in a hazard.” R. Lunn, the other member ; of the threesome, and the man keeping Henning’s score-

card, was 40 yards up the; ■ fairway and turned around. Henning made his shot. When he putted out, Lunn marked a five on the card and . Henning, who said neither, he nor his caddy was aware' of . being in a hazard, signed it. Lunn said he did not see the I incident. j Crampton later lodged a I complaint with P.G.A. officials, who quizzed all the , players and caddies involved ; before disqualifying Henning. ’ Another South African, G. , Player, and the American, L. ‘ Trevino, recorded four-under- : par 66s to share the firstround lead. F. Beard, J. Pott, R. H. ] Sikes, and the former Masters champion, G. Brewer, r Were on 67. R. J. Charles ! (New Zealand) had a 69 and ■ Crampton 72.
