The hottest spots in the troubled area now are Thana town and surrounding villages, where 14 were killed in two days and arson and looting incidents continued. The police said that in Bhiwandi, 67 had died and 445 were injured. In Jalgaon, 42 were killed and 80 injured and arrests exceeded 2000. One person was killed in Badlapur. Cars and trucks were burned in other villages near Bhiwandi, where 8000 chickens at a poultry farm were burned to death when their pens were set on fire. In Bombay police clamped a one-week ban on assemblies of more than five persons and began a mass round-up of known bad characters.
