Bays Double Celebration

(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON. Nelson Bays, in the first official match for the combined union, beat Poverty Bay, fl-3, at Motueka yesterday. It was 100 years ago to the day since the first Rugby match in New Zealand was played in Nelson. Nelson Bays scored two impressive tries from good football until about 10 minutes into the second half. From that point, Poverty Bay, winning most of the ball through a sturdy pack of forwards, attacked strongly, and only a determined defence kept it out.

For Nelson Bays, J Chadwick and T. Mitchell scored tries, and W. Mabey kicked a penalty goal for Poverty Bay.
