INDOCHINA WAR
West German Resolution
(N.Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SAARBRUCKEN, May 12. The West German Social Democrat Party congress has passed a resolution condenining the extension of the Vietnam war into Indo-China. The resolution supported the recent social international declaration regretting President Nixon’s decision to send United States troops into Cambodia. It appealed to nations involved in the Indo-China war to agree to the reconvening of the Geneva conference in Indo-China. Earlier, the leadership of the main Federal Government party encountered stiff opposition from young Leftists, who had tabled their own motion on United States policy in Indo-China. This motion—rejected by a big majority—had demanded immediate and total United States withdrawal from South-East Asia. It accused the United States of using the defence of democracy and freedom as “a screen for a brutal, imperialist war which is leading to the annihilation of large groups of people in South-East Asia, and which serves only the power interests of American capitalism.”
