The champion New Zealandbred colt, Daryl’S Joy, was nosed out of victory in the rich Cortez Handicap at Hollywood Park on Tuesday, United Press International reported. Starting favourite, Daryl’s Joy was beaten by a nose in a photo finish by the star Chilean four-year-old, Vagabundo. Daryl’s Joy was taken to the United States by his owner, a Singapore businessman, Mr R. Goh, after the colt’s brilliant victory in the V.R.C. Derby at Flemington. Vagabundo, brought to the United States after scoring six wins without a defeat in Chile, was unable to score in his first three starts in the United States. Vagabundo covered the distance of 11 furlongs ip the good time of 2min 15sec, to beat Daryl’s Joy with Inandaga four lengths away third.
