EDUCATIONAL TV AT UNIVERSITY

Educational television equipment costing more than S6OOO, which recently arrived at the education department of the University of Canterbury, will eventually be set up in an experimental classroom of the education building at Ham.

The equipment consists of ■ video tape recorder, cam-i era, three lenses, a portable, monitor and two large television sets. The unit can be used with normal room lighting and an hour’s taping can be done on one reel which costs S7O and can be used many times. Use of the new equipment was still in the exploratory stage, said Dr G. Nuthall, a senior lecturer in the education department. It might be used for some teacher training and in the classrooms.

[• Use of the new unit is ex- • pected to be confined initially i j. to three main areas—class-1 ■ room research, augmenting | previous work done by the. department using audio-tape recordings of classroom les-j sons; teaching and research; on child development; andi teaching purposes in connec-i tion with guidance, inter-1 • viewing and psychological testing. The unit is sufficiently port-. : table for use in schools round the city and experimental work has already been done.
