Soccer Move Rejected

(N.Z. Press Assn.—’Copyright)

LONDON. An attempt by the Welsh Fqotball Association to have obstruction classed as one of the Offences for which a direct free kick is awarded, failed at the annual meeting of the Football Association in London.

The meeting supported a recommendation of the referees' committee that the proposal to alter section 12 of the rules of soccer to make obstruction a penal offence should be rejected. At present, obstruction is one of the five offences for which an indirect free kick is awarded, and Mr A. D. McMullen. chairman of the referees’ committee, said he understood therer was concern over the fact that players used obstruction, {n the penalty area rather than risk, conceding a penalty by fouling. Yet it wa» felt that the proposal could, not be supported at this stage. ; . x
