(N.Z.P.A-Reuter—Copyright) EDINBURGH. The Meadowbank sports centre, the home of this year’s Commonwealth Games, was officially opened in Edinburgh on Saturday. It cost £2,300,000. The Duke of Kent, performing the opening ceremony, said that he did not know of any comparable centre which embraced such a vast range of sports facilities. He described it as magnificent.

The main floodlit stadium has a 400-metre track of eight lanes, surrounding a football and hockey field. There is an all-wea-ther games pitch, and a cycle track.

Indopr facilities include three sports halls, six squash courts, five multi-purpose rooms, changing rooms for 500 competitors, a medical suite, a lecture theatre and a reference library. !
