N.Z. Heart Appeal
The National Heart Foundation is setting up regional committees and members of the public who wish to continue supporting the foundation are asked to deal through them.
the chairman of the Canterbury committee (Mr R. F. Ballantyne) said that the purpose of decentralisation of the foundation was to keep its work alive before the public. The West Coast would affiliate with Canterbury. The foundation’s aim is to encourage research into heart (disease, to further preventive education and to study and promote effective rehabilitation after illness. A national appeal for funds was launched last year with a target of slm of which $970,000 had been received by last October. Mr Ballantyne said about $5OO had been given by Canterbury people who supported the foundation for no other reason than as a follow-up to appeal publicity. The foundation had made eight grants amounting to $18,950 towards research and education. Another $31,050 had been allocated for the year ending on October 31 this year, said Mr Ballantyne, and 8100,000 had been provisionally allocated for the next 12 months.
The Regional Committee hoped to be able to maintain local interest in the work of the Heart Foundation and so to encouraged donations from time to time, he Said.
