CAPPING STUNTS
Drink a jug of beer and! run a quarter of a mile, then drink another and run the distance again—this is what! the 26 competitors in a race organised by the University of Canterbury capping committee had to do yesterday. Called the Clarendon "Chunda" Mile, the stunt was held at the Ham sports ground before a crowd of about 1000, according to the I capping committee’s stunts controller (Mr S. Taylor). Heats in the contest were over half a mile, and the final over a mile, so that finalists consumed six jugs of beer. The race was won by B. McConchie (Lincoln College) and C. McClunan (University of Canterbury) was second. Beer was given by the sponsor as prizes. In another stunt in the city yesterday morning students in a miamia on the Avon River fired blank cartridges,; said Mr Taylor, who also re-' ported that the effigy of Mr Holyoake had fallen off the: kiwi at the premises of Com-1 bined Co-operative Distribu-! tors, Ltd, in Tuam Street.
