40 FLOATS FOR CAPPING PARADE
Forty floats are expected to take part in J the University of Canterbury’s capping parade s on Wednesday morning.
’ The parade controller (Mr;: ‘A. Lateef) said the floats ,< . would leave from outside theji ’ Student Union building at the, corner of Hereford and Mon- i ' treal Streets, at 10 a.m. !< They would travel on Here-1 1 ford Street to Oxford Terrace, 1 along to Cashel Street, up toil Manchester Street and along ’ to Armagh Street, to Colombo( Street and into the Square,!; then along Worcester Street!; and back to the university, 11 The campus band will lead:' the parade, followed by “Miss' i University” in a vintage SS Jaguar car lent by a city garage. The floats will be judged by ’ Mr Lateef and Mr R. Laing, ( and the Mayor (Mr A. R. •Guthrey) will present the ; prizes. The best group effort’ J will earn the perpetual j ’ trophy presented by Mr Lateef and S3O, the best individual effort 820, and the best _ performance on foot 87. , The final of the “Miss Uni-: ’ versify” contest will be! judged at the Civic Theatre:
at 1 p.m. today. It will be open to the public and there ■ will be no admission charge. The radio and television | personality, Arch King, will compere the show. The judges will be Mr Guthrey, Mrs Nola Kelleher, the All Black, W. F. McCormick, and Mrs Sue Nichols. “Miss University” will win a trip to Mount Cook, as well as clothes from a city fashion house. ■ .
