Gas Chamber Recommended

(N .Z .P.A .-Reut er~rCopyrifiht) LOS ANGELES, April 22.

A jury today recommended death in the gas chamber for Robert Beausoleil, aged 22, a member of the hippie "Manson Family,” for the killing by torture of a Los Angeles musician, Gary Hinman, aged 34, last July. Judge William Keene, of the Supreme Court, set May 12 as the date for formal sentencing of Beausoleil. Women wept in the crowded courtroom as Beausoleil received the sentence of the seven-woman five-man jury. Beausoleil was the first member of the nomadic hippie cult to be sentenced for a series of eight inter-related killings last July and August, including the ritualistic murder of a film actress, Sharon Tata.
