Salary Arrears For Teachers

Salary arrears for all Canterbury Education Board's permanent staff had been calculated and would be paid on the computer pay-list of April 29. the Canterbury Education Board was told yesterday. The board’s general manager (Mr W. P. Spencer) reported that the permanent staff totalled about 2400. In addition there were about 1200 teachers in the board’s “relief school.” The latter were employed intermittently and were normally paid by means of a board advance, which was recovered through the computer pay-list later. “Salary arrears for relief teachers will be paid as they ate re-employed, although for administrative convenience it is intended to calculate the arrears for each teacher in advance of employment and as time permits,” said Mr Spencer.
