114 LOSE JOBS

Dispute At Tomoana

(N.Z. Press Association)

HASTINGS, April 16. Tomoana freezing works today dismissed 114 freezing chamber hands who, since April 6, have refused to load out meat for export while they are involved in a wages dispute. As a result killing is almost certain to come to a standstill at the works. , The chamber hands had banned loading out in support of an eight cents an hour wage increase.

The dismissal notices are effective from tonight. The works assistant general manager, Mr G. T. Taylor, said today that the works now virtually did not have a freezer department. The union would not allow men to be relocated into the department, and while this situation pertained killing could not continue.
