Car Leaves Road

Three persons were injured when a station waggon left the road near Aickens about 7.22 p.m. yesterday. The vehicle, which was travelling towards Greymouth, snapped off a railways telegraph post and came to rest, facing the direction from which it had come, on the railway line 4ft above the road. Those injured are Mathew McQuilkin, of 68 Bright Street, Cobden; his wife, Mrs Joan McQuilkin, and Wilma Nelson, of Greymouth. Rescuers had difficulty freeing a woman in the rear of the waggon and shs was extricated through the rear doors. At least one of the persons is believed to be seriously injured but the Grey Hospital last night would not give the condition of the injured. Because of the damage to railways communications, the West Coast-Christchurch railcar was held at Jacksons and arrived in Christchurch two hours late.
