G. R. Gallery Suspended

The Canterbury district racing committee yesterday suspended G. R. Gullery from race riding until 5 p.m. on April 13. It had considered an appeal by the resident stipendiary steward (Mr L. J. Muirhead) against the decision of the judicial committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club in fining Gullery $4O for falling to ride Quario out—the horse finished fifth—in the Merivale Handicap at Riccarton on Easter Monday. Mr Muirhead said that the fine- wa> a lenient penalty for Gullery’s offence. The district committee amended the penalty after reviewing the evidence, viewing a film of the race, and hearing Mr Muirhead and Gullery. Re-appointed The Canterbury district committee yesterday reappointed Mr D. W. J. Gould as its representative on the executive of the New Zealand Racing Conference.
