Seal Hunt

Sir, —Since my letter of March 23 the following report has come to hand. The “Daily Telegraph,” London, claimed In a front-page story that seals were being hunted in conditions as brutal, bloody, and cruel as ever, despite Government assurances. This information was reported by Mr Brian Davies, executive director of the International Fund for Animal Welfare, on Grindstone Island in the Canadian Arctic. The following telegram was sent to the Canadian Prime Minister on March 24: “President, chairman and committee Scottish Society for Prevention of Vivisection register strongest possible protest against slaughter 50,000 harp seals Gulf St Lawrence as reported

world press March 23. This action direct violation agreement banning clubbing of seals and killing of whitecoats.” It is doubtful whether the Canadian Government ever intended to pass legislation prohibiting this cruel practice, and now is the time to make world-wide written protest to the Canadian Prime Minister.—Yours, etc., R. J. GLEN. April 7, 1970.
