Short Supplies; Lost Orders
His company was turning down orders because it could not get sufficient extruded aluminium, Mr E. P. Chapman, general manager of C. W. F. Hamilton and Company, Ltd, told the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association yesterday. Now that it had been decided to build a fifth extruding plant in the North Island, while there were none in the South Island, it was more important than ever to persuade Comalco to build its proposed plant in the south, he said.
Professor N. C. Phillips said it would be no use merely asking. It would be necessary to prepare a documented case.
The association president (Mr J. D. Bull) said an investment of about slm would be involved. Economic studies would be required beforehand.
The association decided to seek Government support for the proposal. It also decided to seek the support of the Otago Manufacturers’ Association.
