FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.— A ridge of high pressure extends across the north Tasman Sea on to the north of the South Island; a disturbed westerly airstream flows over the south Tasman Sea on to the South Island. Forecast:

Canterbury, the Kaikoura Coast and the Marlborough Sounds. —Northerly winds predominating and becoming fresh about Cook Strait; some cloudy areas at first but becoming fine and mild for most of the day; a change to fresh, cooler southerlies with a few showers is likely to spread from the south during the afternoon. Central Marlborough and Nelson.—Light to moderate variable winds; fine and mil/.

Buller and Westland. Moderate, occasionally fresh, west to south-west winds; variable skies with a few light showers: a period of more general showers is likely this afternoon; moderate temperatures. Outlook.—All districts: a few showers, mainly in the west CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
