NEW LEAVE PROVISION

Government Employees

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, March 20. Employees who have completed 20 years continuous service in the Public Service, Railways, Post Office, Legislative Department and Law Drafting Office will be given four weeks long service leave, which may be taken once only.

This was announced today by the chairman of the Cabinet Committee on State Services (Mr Taiboys). Mr Taiboys said he had also been authorised to approve the extension of long service leave under the same conditions to other branches of the State services on the completion of appropriate consultations.

The starting date of entitlement for long service leave was April this year. Mr Taiboys said the Government had declined a request by the combined State services organisations for one week’s additional annual leave for all staff.
